Sr. Godelieve Theys, OCSO, beloved sister of Redwoods Monastery died on June 16th, Trinity Sunday, just 12 days after her 96th birthday. She will be deeply missed by her community, her many friends and family. Sr. Godelieve was one of the founding sisters of Redwoods Monastery, arriving in 1963 from Our Lady of Nazareth in Brecht, Belgium. Her passions – music, social justice, incarnational theology, psychology, nature – formed her life as a monastic. Sr. Godelieve, a faithful seeker of Truth, was committed to living in the dialectical tension of mysticism and social concern, in anticipation of a more inclusive, Christ-centered, way of life. This is summarized beautifully in the refrain that dominated her thinking in the last months of her life, “That God might be all in all,” (1 Cor 15:28).
Sr. Godelieve died peacefully surrounded by her sisters of the Redwoods. May she rest in the loving gaze of God and be our advocate and intercessor before the Blessed Trinity.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on June 29th at 10:00 AM at Redwoods Monastery.
